Background
Lord Katsumaru Wataku is the younger brother of Shogun Souunkatsu and Lady Suise. He is the older brother of Lady Taiyou. He is also regarded as smartest and most skilled samurai in Kokurko. He is regarded the nickname as "The Sky" as nothing can escape his attention if he catches eye to it. Lord Katsumaru is the Grandmaster of Fuji-Tora ryu, one of the most skilled samurai dojo in Kokurko. He is the Grandmaster of Emperor Solekari's two sons Crown Prince Hiroshi and Prince Sakuro.
He was given the title of Shikken or the second place of the Shogun by his older brother the Shogun of Kokurko. He is basically a mere placeholder if the Shogun is out or dead before the Shogun's heir could claim the position. He is satisfied of this position however has he had no desire for high power titles and also it was a title entrusted to him by Shogun Souunkatsu so he honors it.
His main duty and focus is teaching the royal princes and also prepare for his sons as his successors. Mainly his eldest son Amekatsu Wataku to be the next Shikken and Yoshikatsu Wataku his third son to take over the dojo. His other main priority is security of Kazesoren and the protection of the Shogun. If Kokurko was in war, he also has one more duty as the primary strategist.

Small Biography
Lord Katsumaru Wataku was born to 2nd General Katsuhori Wataku and Lady Hayashi. Upon birth he already had a rough relationship with his father as he wasn't born a female to be married off to another family. General Katsuhori already had a son and thus didn't want another one. The relationship strained even further when Katsumaru proved to be hard to control and General Katsuhori always feared to be embarrassed by him with his frivolous follies.
His grandfather Lord Katsuyoshi Wataku took up the mantle of providing guidence to Lord Katsumaru instead. He could see more to Katsumaru then Katsuhori did and started to train him and give him a purpose of his own.
After being trained and also graduated the Akisho Academy, his older brother had been poisoned by their uncle Hyokatsu Wataku. While Souunkatsu survived the poison. Katsumaru began to show his true merits as to expose Hyokatsu for a potential assassination attempt.
During the Kokurkan/Ushimaran War his older brother became the new Shogun of Kokurko and his own role became the strategist and manage to secure victory for the Wataku army and also for the Kokurkan army as a whole.
When the war ended he married Lady Hotaru was given the title of Shikken by his older brother and takes over the dojo his grandfather left him and used it to train both the Shogun's heir and the Crown Prince.

Personality
Katsumaru is laid back and casual. Most of the time. He is rather eccentric and independant attitude. He is quite friendly however and will hang with his friends and even treat strangers to sake. He is also highly confident in is skill enough to even carry his infant children in meetings, court and even dangerous situations with him in his home. He is quite the sake drinker and will often drink alone or with fellow generals. Many regarded him a fool or weird while others see it a ruse to confuse or cause the enemy to underestimate him. Those who see through the ruse regard him a rather more of an intellegent figure then what others give him credit for. When fighting his opponent, he shows no mercy for their slaughter.
Before he was shogun it was known that he never wanted the position and rather preferred take to his own as the 2nd General instead. However his elder brother placed him as his heir regardless what his brother wanted to secure the Wataku Shogunate as Katsumaru's eccentric attitude wasn't enough to curb his brother's decision to another candidate. Souunkatsu was smart and calculated enough to see through this ruse.
When Katsumaru took the shogun seat after his brother's untimely death that he became more serious and took the seat with pride and did what his brother had hoped for the future of their family name.
When Katsumaru became a father, he became more light hearted and laid back. He allowed his children enjoy the leisures of freedom to play. Even allow them to play near him during dangerous court sessions as he wanted to teach them to be fearless.
It is also said that Katsumaru has trouble processing emotions and deals with them on a different time. Such as a serious events such as his father's/brother's deaths. But rather then expressing sadness or anger, he expresses a cold attitude. However when he gets angry he can ether be cold or express it explosively.
